Holding the Man

By Timothy Conigrave

Directed by Bruce Akers

9 September - 26 September 2026

Based on Timothy Conigrave’s celebrated memoir of the same name, Holding the Man is a warm and heart-wrenchingly honest story of the love between two boys (Timothy and John) who met at a Melbourne high school in the mid-1970’s while Timothy was in a high school production of Romeo and Juliet. This meeting led to a romance that endured for 15 years through the discriminations, the jealousies and the losses.

It’s a funny, sad and celebratory love story about growing up gay in Australia.

Warning: Contains strong language, adult themes and graphic descriptions of sexual acts.
