2016 - Our 70th Anniversary!

2016 marked Williamstown Little Theatre's milestone 70th year and we had celebratory events all through the year.

• All through the year, via Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, as well as on our History page, photos from past productions were posted at random intervals to celebrate our long, proud history.

• The first birthday event was the unveiling of the Birthday Wall. Artist and member Kerry Drumm designed a mural to celebrate our 7 decades. Members and friends helped paint her design in mid January. The official unveiling of the wall by our oldest member, Life Member Ella Bambery, took place on Friday 5 February following our AGM. This was the official launch of the Birthday Year.

•There were three free Pleasant Sunday Afternoon entertainments that included scenes from past productions, stories of the theatre company’s history and a song or two as well :

Sunday, February 28:  The first of these, Down Memory Lane - 1946-1967, took us to the beginning of Williamstown Little Theatre. It introduced some of our elder “statespeople” who were involved in the early years and who created the foundation of one of Melbourne’s, and Victoria’s, oldest and best non-professional theatre companies.

Sunday, May 8:   A Bakery doth a Theatre Make…..1968 - 1990      A look at the purchase and fitting out of 2 Albert Street, and some of the productions till 1990.

Sunday,September 25:   Onwards, Upwards and Many Awards – 1991-2015     A look at the years from 1991 to the current era at Albert St!

• The culmination of the anniversary was a grand Birthday Gala dinner dance in the Williamstown Town Hall Grand Ballroom on Saturday, 20th August. Gala Photo Album

•This was followed by a further delightful reunion opportunity, a 'Back to Willy' brunch and open rehearsal of Sitting Pretty.
